E-Mail Commercial and Bulk List Services
The "Dundee Commercial and Bulk E-Mail List" services are ideally
suited to non-technical users who want to take advantage of the power of mailing
list technology, without having to become mailing list experts themselves. The benefits of
mailing lists are well known:
- Better organization and communication.
- More spontaneous team work.
- Better information flow, with near-instant delivery of documents at extremely low
costs.
- Significant reduction in printing and copying costs.
- Decreased reliance on costly conference calls and face to face meetings.
- More spontaneous exchange of views and ideas than during a formal (and often
intimidating) meeting.
- Greatly facilitated telecommuting work.
There are many kinds of mailing lists that we categorize into roughly three
types:
Open discussion: anyone who is a member of
the mailing list can submit information to be distributed to the entire group. In this
way, a group discussion can take place. When people want to join a mailing list that you
are running with Lyris, they either send a "subscribe" email message to Lyris,
or they fill out the "join" form on the Web, using the Lyris Web Interface.
People contribute to the discussion by sending email to the discussion group email address
which Lyris maintains, or by filling out the "create a new message" form on the
web using the Lyris Web Interface. When a new message is contributed, each member of the
discussion receives the message in the manner that they specified. Some people receive
every message immediately, in their email. Others receive a nightly "digest" of
all the messages. Still others elect not to receive any email, and prefer to read the
messages on the Web using the Lyris Web Interface. You can also choose to require an
administrator to approve (moderate) messages before they are sent to the group, so that
you can determine if they are appropriate.
Announcement lists: these are typically used
to distribute information about a product, a service, an event or other noteworthy
information. In most cases, the organization that runs the mailing list controls what
information, is sent out. The process for announcements lists is similar to that for
discussions (see above), except only approved people are allowed to send messages to the
group. This could be just you, a number of people in your organization, or specific people
you choose. Frequently, with many announcement lists, you will want to "import"
in bulk a list of email addresses who should be members of the mailing list. Lyris will
also do this for you.
Moderated forums/discussions: a hybrid of
the two types above, where members of the group can submit information to be distributed
to the entire group, but submissions need to go through an approval process before they
are distributed.
The "Commercial and Bulk E-Mail List" services can be tailored to suit
individual needs. Three types of service are available, ranging from simple list hosting
with limited archives to a complex system complete with mail, web and secure newsgroup
access plus HTML archives with full text searching capabilities. This allows you to
choose the level of features you want Dundee Internet Services to provide for operating
your list.
- Dundee Basic: this service level is for
customers who want a simple mailing list without permanent archive and search
capabilities.
- Dundee Archive: this
service type provides all the Dundee Basic features plus HTML archives of your
list
- Dundee Premium: this service type provides
you with all the Dundee Basic and Dundee Commercial features plus a HTML
Search Engine and Secure Newsgroup access to your list

Conditions of
Use: Dundee Internet Services does not
condone the use of unsolicited commercial e-mail (aka UCE or Spam) as a
legitimate means of marketing communication and subsequently does not
authorize the use of our Lyris List Servers for the transmission of UCE.
In addition, all lists MUST be run as confirmed opt-in (aka double
opt-in) for new subscribers. In other words, if you plan on sending UCE
or do not intend on using confirmed opt-in for new subscribers, don't
even bother to contact us.
*List Set-up: Note that this charge
only covers the creation and initial set-up of the list. If you need assistance with
importing subscribers from a database program, or importing archives from another mailing
list, we can provide this service at an additional fee.
**Monthly Maintenance:
Covers subscribes, unsubscribes, hello messages and other administrative messages plus
archives and search engines, if applicable. Pre-pay 12 months and get the cost of first
25,000 messages (based on less than 20k message size) each month subtracted from your
volume surcharge (value = approximately $18.75 per month if the full 25,000 is used)
***Volume Surcharge: The cost
will be actual messages sent. You only pay for what you use, subject to the minimum
monthly charge. Digests and indexes are billed as one message. You are only charged for
messages that are distributed to your mailing list. These prices are based on an
message size of 10k. If you are planning to send messages larger than 10k these prices do
not apply. Messages larger than 10k are calculated in increments of 1k.
For example, if you sent a message that was 12k in size, you would be
charged for 1.2 messages
