Internet Setup


  1. Get the Win98 floppies/CDRom ready.
  2. Click on Start-->Programs-->Internet Explorer-->Connection Wizard
  3. Click on the little white circle (it's called a radio button) next to the middle paragraph.  Click next.
  4. Click on the radio button next to the first paragraph.  Click next.
  5. Select "Connect using my phone line."  Click next.
  6. Select "Create a new dial-up connection." Click next.
  7. Enter in phone number: Click here for current list
  8. Uncheck the box "Dial using the area code and country code."   Click next
  9. Enter your username and password.  Click next.
  10. Select "No" when asked if you want to change the advanced settings.   Click next.
  11. Enter the name you want to give this connection, i.e., Dundee Internet.   Click next.
  12. Select "Yes" when asked to set up an e-mail account.  Click next.
  13. Select "Create a new Internet mail account."  Click next.
  14. Enter your name, i.e., John Doe.  Click next.
  15. Enter your e-mail address.  This is in the form of "<username>@dundee.net"  For example, john@dundee.net.  Click next.
  16. Select POP3 as your mail server type.  Enter "mail.dundee.net" (without the quotes) as the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server.  Click next.
  17. Select "Log on using" and enter your mail account name.  This is the same as your logon user name.  Enter your mail password as "password" (without the quotes).  You can change this password to anything you want at http://pop3.dundee.net once you logon to the Internet.  Click next.
  18. Enter a name for this e-mail account, i.e., Dundee mail or John's mail, etc.   Click next.
  19. Select "Yes" when asked to set-up an Internet News account.  Click next.
  20. Select "Create a new Internet News account.  Click next.
  21. Enter the name you wish to use in Internet News.  Click next.
  22. Enter your e-mail address, if necessary.  Click next.
  23. Enter "nntp.dundee.net" (without the quotes) as the news server.   Click next.
  24. Enter a name for this news account, i.e., USENET News, Dundee news, etc.   Click next.
  25. Select "No" when asked to set up an Internet Directory account.   Click next.
  26. Click Finish.
  27. Restart your computer by clicking on Start-->Shutdown-->Restart.
  28. Double click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop to log onto the Internet.
